Gatorade is an American brand of sports-themed beverage and food products, built around its signature line of sports drinks. It was created in 1965 by a team of University of Florida researchers, led by Robert Cade. Its earliest product was a liquid electrolyte drink designed to help athletes replace fluids lost during strenuous athletic activities. Today, the Gatorade brand is owned by PepsiCo and it produces a wide variety of sports nutrition products including ready-to-drink beverages, powders, bars and gels. Gatorade's main ingredient is sugar or another sweetener that provides carbohydrates for energy. Other ingredients include water for hydration; sodium and potassium to help restore electrolytes; citric acid for flavor; and food coloring to add color. Gatorade also contains vitamins B3 (niacinamide), B6 (pyridoxine hydrochloride) and B12 (cyanocobalamin).

The company has sponsored professional athletes such as Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Usain Bolt and Serena Williams in order to promote its products worldwide. The brand has evolved from being primarily marketed toward athletes to having a broader appeal across different demographics with its "G Series" range of drinks which have been specifically designed for before-, during-and after workouts or other physical activity.
