BAND-AID is a brand of adhesive bandages and related products owned by Johnson & Johnson. The BAND-AID brand name has become synonymous with adhesive bandages, becoming part of everyday language in many countries.

The BAND-AID product was created in 1920 by Earle Dickson, an employee of Johnson & Johnson. He developed the idea after his wife frequently cut herself while cooking and needed a better way to protect her cuts and scrapes than using traditional gauze strips.

In 1921, Dickson presented his idea to the company and they began manufacturing the product which was initially called "Band-Aid Brand Adhesive Bandages". The original design featured crinoline fabric (a type of stiff cotton mesh) held in place with a strip of zinc oxide adhesive. The first BAND-AIDs were sold as individual sterile packages containing three sizes; small, medium and large.

Today, BAND-AIDs are available in a variety of styles including waterproof bandages for swimming or showering, as well as fabric bandages that provide extra cushioning for comfort. In addition to adhesive bandages, other products offered under the BAND-AID brand include antiseptic wipes for cleaning minor cuts and scrapes, antibiotic ointment for preventing infections and gel sheets for relieving pain from blisters or burns.
