AT&T is an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate that is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. AT&T Inc. is the second largest provider of mobile telephone services and the largest provider of fixed telephone services in the United States, and also provides broadband subscription television services. AT&T is the parent company of WarnerMedia (formerly known as Time Warner), a media conglomerate which owns HBO, CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, TBS, TNT and other properties.

In October 2005 AT&T acquired BellSouth for $86 billion to become the sole provider of landline phone service throughout 22 U.S states. This merger made AT&T one of the largest providers of both wireless and wireline telecommunications in the United States; it subsequently merged with DirecTV in 2015 and purchased Time Warner in 2018 to create an even larger media empire.

AT&T has been involved in numerous legal disputes over its history ranging from antitrust suits to intellectual property infringement cases; most notably a case against Apple Inc., where it was accused of monopolizing iPhone sales through exclusive contracts with carriers such as Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corporation. It was also found guilty by a federal court judge in 2017 for illegally conspiring to limit competition among its subscribers by preventing them from switching carriers without early termination fees or paying off their device's installment plan balance.
